Winter is here, it’s the season for burrowing in, slowing down, entertaining at home, weekends in the country rather than the coast, and footy all season long.
We’re sharing our favourite wines for every winter moment, along with food pairings to enjoy them with.
Friday Movie Night
At the end of a long winter work week, there’s nothing like slipping into your most comfortable clothes, throwing together an easy dinner and finally snuggling in to binge that movie or series you’ve been wanting to watch.
Make the wine choice as easy as the dinner with our varietal range:
Thai Takeaway & Sauvignon Blanc: Even in winter, Sauvignon Blanc shines alongside Thai takeaway; its zesty acidity, crisp citrus, and bright herbal notes match with the fresh herbs, lime, and spices in your favourite dishes.
Pizza & Sangiovese: Pizza’s natural wine partner, Sangiovese, is a native of Italy. Bright red fruits, medium acidity, and slight tannins pair well with pizza’s tomato base, cured meats, herbs, and a touch of fattiness.
An Easy Platter & Tempranillo: An effortlessly assembled platter suits the end of a winter week. Tempranillo, echoing young Spanish styles, is light, fresh, and softly textured—never overwhelming, always in harmony with the array of cheese, cured meats, dips, olives, and crackers.
Footy with Mates
Whether it’s Saturday night or Sunday afternoon, getting together with mates to watch your favourite footy code is the great Aussie winter social occasion. Grab a wine that goes with your favourite footy foods.
The Red & Burgers: Designed to be your everyday cool-climate Shiraz, The Red has classic red fruits, eucalyptus & toasted vanilla. Throw a burger on the BBQ at half-time, pair it with some chips & you’re good to go for the rest of the game.
Cabernet Sauvignon & Meat Pie: Is it even footy without a meat pie? Whether it’s a classic mince pie from the bakery or your show-stopper slow-cooked beef & red wine pie, a Cab Sauv is a great pairing with red-fruit notes, earthy notes, acidity to cut through the richness, classic firm tannins, & a plush mouthfeel.
Christmas in July Dinner Party
Who doesn’t love getting together with mates for a Christmas in July dinner party when you can live out your white Christmas fantasies? When you’re putting so much effort into the meal, make sure you choose a wine that’s going to show it off.
Kick Start the Celebration: Petiyante Sparkling Chardonnay/Pinot Noir: Elegant & textural, Petitante is a great pairing with canapes or seafood entrees.
Make it sophisticated: Wally White Semillon is our icon white wine, textural, layered & sophisticated with lemon, white peach, vanilla, slight smokiness from the barrel fermentation, a zesty, mineral finish and mouth-watering natural acidity. Wally is a stunner with rich dishes like a fish pie or roast pork.
The Main Event: Old Rowley Shiraz/Grenache is one of our all-time winter favourites. Full flavoured with raspberry, boysenberry, lifted florals, vanilla, oak & clove notes, then a long, rich finish. It will make the most of roast beef, lamb or even a glazed ham.
Winter Seafood Feast
Winter brings seafood into its own, especially on Kangaroo Island. Oysters reach peak plumpness and brininess, while King George Whiting and other fish abound, infusing the season with ocean-fresh flavour.
Oysters & Petiyante Sparkling: Sparkling & oysters are a classic match for a reason. Sparkling’s acidity cuts through the oyster’s richness & both are rich in Umami, sparking off each other to create a taste sensation.
Fish & Chips: Make the most of winter’s fish with classic fish & chips (our favourite is a flathead in a beer batter). Our small-batch 360 Sauvignon Blanc is produced in a barrel-fermented ‘fume blanc’ style. Think summer’s bright Sauv Blanc flavours made more textural.
Seafood Paella & 360 Verdejo: From Rueda, Spain, this crisp, dry, full-bodied wine is beautifully textured with notes of grapefruit, lime, bay leaf, and fennel. It pairs perfectly with a rich seafood paella featuring fish, prawns, and mussels, with a spicy tomato base.
Sunday Afternoon by the Fire
There’s something about winter Sunday afternoons. Something is slow cooking in the oven. Crack open a bottle of something special that you don’t have to share around.
Bark Hut Road Shiraz/Cabernet Franc is a classic Bordeaux-style blend that doesn’t need a fancy meal to be enjoyed. Delicious on its own or makes a simple cheese shine.
Majestic Plough Malbec. If you have something simmering in the slow cooker, Malbec is an ideal pairing. Its dark, fleshy fruit flavours and firm, tannic grip complement slow-braised lamb shoulder or rich beef ragù. Relax and let Sunday unfold.
