Ever Wondered What’s Next for Your Glass? Discover 360 Petit Verdot. Your New Favourite Red
If you’re a fan of bold, richly flavoured reds and haven’t tried Petit Verdot (peh-tee vur-doe) yet, our new 360 Wines release is your perfect next pour. Crafted in tiny batches, this wine is deep, expressive, and truly memorable. Let’s explore why you’ll love it.
What Is Petit Verdot (and Why Haven’t I Tried It Yet?)
Petit Verdot is a classic French grape, one of the five key varieties in Bordeaux red blends, where it’s traditionally used in small amounts to add colour, perfume, and structure. But have you ever wondered what it can do on its own?
Petit Verdot (peh-tee vur-doe) French for “little green one” is a late-ripening, thick-skinned grape, which brings plenty of tannin and colour, allied with bright acidity and deep flavour to wines made with it.
Why we love Fleurieu Peninsula Petit Verdot
We selected the fruit from a vineyard tucked away in a valley on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Surrounded by cattle and forestry and sitting above an underground river, the vines thrive without a drop of irrigation. The valley captures heat & sun during the day, without getting too hot, and the temperatures drop into the low teens overnight, allowing the vines to rest. This gives the fruit a fantastic balance, with plenty of sugar at harvest while retaining its natural acidity.
The 360 Wines Approach: Small Batch & Thoughtful
360 Wines are handcrafted and barrel fermented. We craft just a single barrel of Petit Verdot, giving it our full attention.
Once handpicked, we destem, hand-sort, and crush the juice into 600 L demi-muid barrels for fermentation. The barrels are rolled daily to extract colour and flavour gently. After four weeks, we gravity-feed and hand-press the must after finishing malolactic fermentation on skins. Barrel ageing takes place in new 500L French oak puncheons for 18 months before hand bottling.
What Does Petit Verdot Taste Like?
You’ll find notes of black raspberry, black cherry, violets, and a hint of vanilla. Tannins abound, but they are soft and elegant from the barrel aging. The wine is bold but still delicate. The finish is long and lingers around. It’s a wine to be savoured and enjoyed with your best mates.
